In this photo, the object appears more consistent with a small piece of connective or glandular tissue, possibly part of a lymph node, rather than a worm or parasite.<\/p>\n<p>Ground beef is produced from larger pieces of beef trimmings that are passed through a grinder. During processing, small pieces of fat, connective tissue, blood vessels, cartilage, or occasionally gland-like tissue can sometimes remain mixed in. Parasites found in livestock generally do not look like this fleshy, solid structure, and seeing something unusual in beef does not automatically mean the meat contained a parasite.<\/p>\n<p>Still, if you find an unidentified piece in packaged ground beef and it makes you uncomfortable, the safest choice is simple: don\u2019t eat that portion. Keep the packaging, photograph the object, and contact the store or manufacturer, especially if the product was recently purchased.
