Speaking with New York Post columnist Miranda Devine on the Pod Force One podcast, Trump said that under a Democratic-controlled Congress he would become \u201cMr. Veto,\u201d rejecting legislation he opposes until the two sides eventually negotiate compromises. New York Post<\/p>\n<p>Trump said he remains confident Republicans will perform well, but described how divided government could work if the election produces a Democratic House or Senate. He suggested repeated vetoes could eventually force lawmakers back to the negotiating table, noting that presidents have previously governed while the opposing party controlled one or both chambers. A presidential veto can be overridden only by a two-thirds vote in both the House and Senate, a threshold that would require substantial bipartisan support. He has issued two vetoes so far during his second term. A Democratic-controlled chamber could also increase congressional oversight of the administration through hearings, investigations and subpoenas, even on matters where legislation cannot overcome a presidential veto. Republicans entered the election defending their congressional majorities, while Democrats are attempting to gain enough seats to control one or both chambers. Early results should therefore be treated as incomplete rather than evidence of the final outcome.
