The line Lauren had found stated that any guest who changed locks, restricted my access, rented the property, or claimed ownership would immediately lose permission to remain. Harold had insisted on that protection after watching relatives fight over another family home years earlier. Lauren had violated every condition.

My attorney had already restored my access with the alarm company and delivered formal notice ending their stay. The sheriff explained that Marcus and Lauren could collect their personal belongings, but they could not prevent me from entering or continue living there without my approval.

Then I discovered why Lauren had become so possessive. She had listed the beach house online as a luxury vacation rental and accepted deposits for several upcoming weekends. She had also used photographs of the property while applying for a business loan, describing it as an asset she controlled.

I saved every listing and reported the unauthorized rentals. The guests were refunded, and the lender opened an investigation into her application.

Marcus begged me to give them another month. I paid for one week at a nearby hotel so they would not be stranded, but I made it clear that their free stay was over.

Lauren later told relatives I had thrown my own son onto the street.

I corrected her once.
