The video showed Colin and Glenda sitting at our dining table with documents spread between them. Glenda practiced my signature on a yellow notepad while Colin compared it with paperwork from our closing folder. Then he held up a document mentioning a refinance and said they only needed everything to “look consistent.” I felt physically sick. The previous owner paused the recording and told me there were several more clips from the previous three days.

I called an attorney before returning home. The documents Glenda had handed me weren’t routine paperwork at all. Mixed among harmless warranty forms were papers that could have added her financial interest to future transactions involving the property. Nothing had been completed yet, which mattered. My attorney contacted the lender, documented what I had seen, and instructed me not to sign anything. We also preserved copies of the recordings rather than confronting Colin with evidence he could destroy.

That evening, I returned carrying groceries and acted normally. Colin asked whether I had reviewed Glenda’s folder. “Not yet,” I said. The following morning, while both of them were out, I collected my personal documents and met my attorney again. By afternoon, the lender had flagged the account against unauthorized changes, and I had begun formally separating my finances.

When Colin finally learned about the camera, he tried insisting they were merely “exploring options” because Glenda had contributed money toward moving expenses. But practicing my signature required no explanation I was willing to accept. Our fresh start lasted six days. The marriage lasted several months longer while everything was handled properly, but trust had ended inside that bungalow behind the gas station. Colin thought the hidden camera had captured an empty living room. Instead, it recorded the exact moment I learned my own husband had been preparing a future that required my signature—but apparently not my permission.
