The video showed my husband, Everett, sitting inside a hotel bar with a woman I had never seen before. The person filming was across the table from them. Everett had his wedding ring off, his hand resting on the woman’s knee, while he calmly explained that he was “finally divorced” and living alone. Then another woman entered the frame and confronted him. Judging by Everett’s face beside me in the driveway, he already knew exactly who had sent it.

Minutes later, the anonymous number called. Her name was Camille. She told me Everett had been dating several women at the same time, telling each of them different versions of the same story. She had discovered our marriage after finding my social-media profile, contacted two of the others, and they decided Everett deserved a very visible morning surprise. The lingerie covering his car belonged to the women he had lied to.

I did not scream or start throwing his belongings outside. I saved the video, screenshots, and messages Camille forwarded before meeting with an attorney. Everett eventually admitted the affairs had been going on for more than a year.

He kept saying the lingerie had humiliated him in front of the neighborhood.

I looked at the car and shook my head.

“The underwear didn’t embarrass you, Everett. It just made what you were hiding impossible to ignore.”
