The first picture showed my husband standing beside a woman I had never seen before, his arm wrapped around her waist. There were dozens more—vacations, dinners, birthdays, even photos inside a house I didn’t recognize. Then I saw the caption beneath one of them: “Daniel and his beautiful wife, Melissa.” My stomach dropped. I was Mrs. Lambert. I had been married to Daniel for six years, yet his business partner clearly believed another woman was his wife—and that I was simply the woman who cleaned our home.
I forced myself to stay calm and kept scrolling. His partner casually explained that “Melissa” often attended company dinners and had even helped Daniel choose furniture for their new apartment downtown. Apparently, my husband had been telling everyone that I was a longtime housekeeper named Liliya who occasionally stayed at the house when he traveled. Suddenly, all those unexplained business trips and late meetings made sense.
I handed the phone back without correcting him. Instead, I thanked him for stopping by and waited until he left.
That evening, Daniel came home acting completely normal.
I had already packed a suitcase—but not mine. His.
On top of it, I placed our wedding photograph beside a handwritten note:
“Your cleaning lady knows everything.”
For the first time in years, Daniel had absolutely nothing to say.
