The Club Manager Finally Revealed Eleanor’s Real Story

Adrian finished calmly. “…the company that manages this club.” Celeste’s face emptied. Nearly thirty-five years earlier, after years of housekeeping and banquet work, I had taken night classes in accounting and hospitality management. Eventually, I helped rescue a struggling service company from bankruptcy, then bought into it. Over time, Hargrove Hospitality grew into a regional management firm overseeing private clubs, resorts, and event properties. Larkspur Ridge had been one of our clients for eleven years.

I was not there to inspect anyone, and I had never asked staff to treat me differently. In fact, Adrian only knew me because I still attended quarterly operations meetings and occasionally reviewed capital projects. Celeste stared at Graham as if he had hidden something from her. He had not. He simply knew I worked “in hospitality” and, like his wife, had never asked what that actually meant.
