Used tea bags may look like kitchen waste, but they can still be surprisingly useful after your drink is finished. One of the easiest uses is in the garden. Tea leaves contain small amounts of nutrients and organic material, so the contents of many tea bags can be added to compost or mixed into soil. Just check the bag first, because some tea bags contain plastic fibers and shouldn’t be buried whole.
Once cooled, damp tea bags can also be useful around the house. People sometimes place them in the refrigerator, shoes, or other small spaces to help absorb mild odors. They can also be used to gently wipe greasy dishes or dirty cookware before normal washing, since the moisture and tea residue can help loosen light grime. Always discard them afterward rather than reusing them repeatedly.
