The Shuttle Revealed What Brittany Had Already Planned

Brittany pointed at me and shouted, “Mom said this house was going to be ours someday!” The hallway went completely silent. I looked at Mom. She immediately denied saying it, but Brittany was already furious enough to keep talking. Apparently, my family had planned this “surprise vacation” for weeks because Mom believed spending ten days at the villa would help establish that everyone should have permanent access whenever they wanted. Brittany had even discussed leaving beach equipment and children’s furniture behind for future visits.

The deputy calmly explained that none of that created any right to remain. My attorney’s letter documented that the property belonged solely to me and that permission to stay had been withdrawn. Nobody was being abandoned on the roadside; transportation and temporary accommodations had already been arranged. Dad argued until the deputy asked whether he preferred to leave voluntarily or have the situation handled more formally. Five minutes later, he started carrying bags toward the shuttle.

Before Brittany left, I asked for my robe. She stared at me as though I were joking. I wasn’t. She disappeared upstairs and returned wearing her own sweatshirt, throwing the silk robe across the sofa. The hospitality staff checked every room before departing, and by 6:18 that morning, the villa was quiet again.

I later learned they complained about me throughout their three free nights at the resort, but they stayed anyway. Afterward, Mom sent a long message saying family should never need invitations. I replied that mine did. I changed the access codes, instructed my property manager never to admit relatives without written confirmation, and stopped explaining myself. Brittany had demanded breakfast because she believed arriving uninvited still made her a guest. By sunrise, she learned the difference between being welcomed into someone’s home and simply deciding it belonged to you.
